Snoezelen Room
The new Almaguin has a therapy room designed in it. This room will be
an essential aid to help our special students at the school and others
from the elementary feeder schools to handle physical and emotional
problems. It will also be available in the off hours to Community Living
clients who would benefit from such therapeutic equipment. This room
could have future applications for stroke and dementia patients who need
a non drug therapy to relieve stress and anger.
The room’s equipment will cost approximately $50,000. To provide this equipment out of the furniture budget for the whole school would mean doing without for other programs. So we are fund raising to provide the equipment. People who want to buy a specific piece of equipment can pick up a booklet on the Snoezelen Room at any one of our elementary schools or AHSS. This booklet will show the equipment and its price. The lowest cost item is $33 and the highest is over $2100. If it is easier, make a general donation and it will be applied where it is needed. Tax receipts are available for donations if requested.
Cheques should be made out to the "Near North District School Board" with a notation that it is for the Snoezelen room. These can be dropped off at AHSS or a feeder school of AHSS. You can also use the online donation form and PayPal. If you are purchasing a specific piece of equipment, please inform Al Bottomley as he is keeping the records of such purchases.
